Much has been written about the impact adoption can have on the life of an unloved shelter pet — but words pale in comparison to seeing that unbridled joy first hand.

Up until recently, a sweet but shy dog named Benny had no idea what the future had in store for him, or how close he came to seeing his cut short. As a resident of the Carson Animal Care Center, a high-kill shelter in Gardena, California, all he could do was sit and wait for someone to come along and save him, which he did week after week with no success. But then that all changed.

Earlier this month, Benny was finally adopted by a loving family. His reaction upon realizing that happy fact? Priceless.

Chris Spin says:

I adopted a dog one time and it was so annoying barking all the time so i killed it

Filipe Cardoso says:

22 people doesn't not what true love means.

Raymond Chan says:

oh my god! that's so good. but what about the other dogs in the shelter. sad!

Lillieannen Sorensen says:

The saddest thing is how many adopters they turn away. Did you know there are enough homes that wish to adopt a dog or cat to save every animal euthanized every year FOUR TIMES OVER?!? There are, yet people are turned away because they live in an apartment, or don't have a fenced yard, or have another pet, or a child under 8, or, or, or, It's criminal!

Luciano Barros says:

i love dog

Saartje05 says:

A high kill shelter. Beyond disgusting something like that even exists in a country like the US.

Татьяна Кравченко says:

БУДЬ СЧАСТЛИВ! СОБАКИ ЛУЧШЕ ЛЮДЕЙ!!!

Gildo Giboião says:

que cena belisssíma ,beauty scene !!!

gundars slitke says:

I don't think he's happy for being adopted because i don't think he has realized that yet. He's probably just happy for getting out of that cage and being free (just in a leash)

chago river says:

he was excited to get out of that cage, not being adopted.

cRondito says:

I don't think he realizes he is being adopted, he is just happy to get outside.

kcl070707 says:

touching

oox1xoo says:

A high kill shelter is not a shelter !

QU3STION5 says:

Gorgeous dog, but all he knew was that he was released from the cage. He didn't "realise he's being adopted". Just being real.

i TAIWAN says:

I fucking cried

Andrey Mihalych says:

Класс!

Patsu86 says:

Everything is emotive and all, but the dog wasn't happy by the fact that he was adopted, but by the fact that he was outside… I had dogs all my life and that's how they all get when they go outside

Fishisemily says:

I cried so much watching this, I knew in the end he was going to be saved because the title said so, but I couldn't help crying seeing the being the poor thing was so nervous and kind of frightened because he didn't know what was happening and probably had many times of disappointment…. People they have beautiful souls and I would die for a dog right now,if u have the money, the love and environment for these kind of adorable dogs in shelters, please adopt one!

TrunkMonkey3000 says:

I would have to teach that dog some DISCIPLINE. I hate when they act so hyper, jumping everywhere.

Thumbs DOWN!

Danblukk says:

I would literally want to adopt every single dog in the shelter.

Wreckz Alottovdatime says:

I apparently wear my heart on my sleeve.
I remember when I went and rescued my doggie, (after he had come up to me on the streets, starving, I turned him to the pound, only to come make him mine four days later)

I'm sittin' here, ballin' my eyes out, while my dumb spoiled dog lays at my feet, snoring, after eating a large meal of a raw steak.

Man, did I get lucky, or what?

natalieanne101 says:

I knew I recognized that place!

Pieter Lindeque says:

The dog does not have the cognitive ability to recognize a concept such as "being adopted." It is just excited that it can move around a bit for the first time in a while. It recognizes freedom of autonomy, not some deep revelation that it's going to a new home. You Americans sure love to tie emotional hogwash to every little thing, don't you?

jacky0708 says:

Awwww how sweet! I really hope the other dogs can have a new family soon :'(

Aruka Lowell says:

How is their return policy? Seems a little bit too happy, i dont like that.

Christopher Williams says:

Fresh outta jail. Bruh was so hype lololol

buralrockt says:

wait till he rip of the head of your one year old child

Mary Flower says:

пока смотрела клип, чуть не расплакалась… очень рада за собачку, что ей продлили жизнь в новой семье, а не усыпили как многих ее друзей по питомнику… дай Бог, чтобы она была счастлива!!

Carms Dy says:

This is so heartwarming. I can feel Benny's happiness upon realizing that he was adopted. Bless the hearts of these people.
