(Photo: Stock photo) ASHEVILLE — For the third time in three months, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office seized several dogs — one of which had allegedly been branded multiple times — from their owners, whom officers say haven’t provided proper shelter and sustenance for the animals, according to warrants.
Sheriff’s deputies seized three of the dogs from their home off of Tipton Hill Road in Leicester Thursday morning. They seized another dog, "an emaciated hound bearing a brand," several days earlier after receiving multiple complaints that the animal was tethered outside without food or water, according to a search warrant.
The dogs’ owners Dylan Lee Hightower, 19, and Cierra Star Newcomb, 20, now face criminal charges. Police have charged each with one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and multiple misdemeanor counts of animal neglect.
